Following the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), our science program encourages students to engage in hands-on experiments, projects, and critical thinking. Topics include life science, physical science, and Earth science.

Science education in High School is an inquiry-driven and hands-on experience, designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of the natural world. At the American School in Stockholm, the science curriculum follows a structured yet flexible pathway through key disciplines—Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—while fostering critical thinking, experimentation, and scientific literacy.

In Biology, students examine life from the cellular level to ecosystems, learning about genetics, evolution, anatomy, and biodiversity. Chemistry introduces students to the properties of matter, chemical reactions, and the periodic table, with practical labs that reinforce theoretical concepts. Physics challenges students to understand motion, forces, energy, and the laws that govern the universe, often integrating mathematical principles for precision.

Throughout each course, students engage in laboratory investigations, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and draw evidence-based conclusions. Collaboration, observation, and presentation skills are key components of the learning process. The curriculum encourages students to explore ethical and environmental issues, fostering a sense of responsibility as global citizens.

The science program prepares students not only for college-level coursework but also to think scientifically about everyday problems. By nurturing curiosity and a methodical approach to discovery, science at the American School in Stockholm builds the foundation for future innovation and informed decision-making.
