Core Subject Information

At the American School in Stockholm, we recognize the growing importance of STEM education in preparing students for success in an increasingly digital and innovation-driven world. Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, integrating hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving. By incorporating advanced technology and computer science courses, we ensure our students are equipped with the critical skills needed for the future.

Our High School curriculum is built upon a rigorous foundation of core academic disciplines, designed to develop students intellectually, socially, and emotionally as they prepare for university and beyond.

In English Language Arts, students engage with a wide range of literary genres to strengthen their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills. From analytical essays to creative narratives, students learn to express themselves with clarity and purpose.

Our Mathematics program builds conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities, progressing from Algebra and Geometry to advanced topics such as Calculus and Statistics.
Science instruction combines theoretical learning with hands-on experiments across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—fostering curiosity, evidence-based reasoning, and scientific literacy.

In Social Studies, students examine historical events, global systems, and civic structures to understand how societies function and evolve. This includes U.S. and World History, Civics, and Geography.

Physical Education and Health promote physical well-being, teamwork, and mental health awareness, addressing challenges like youth inactivity through structured sports and health curricula.

The Arts—visual, musical, dramatic, and dance—encourage creativity, cultural appreciation, and personal expression.

Foreign Language studies in Spanish, French, or Mandarin enhance communication, cultural fluency, and global engagement.

Together, these subjects ensure a well-rounded, globally conscious education that supports academic excellence and personal growth.
